American Heart Month: February 2021

February is American Heart Month! At AED.US, we celebrate hearts all day, every day, but we want you to join us in highlighting heart health this month!

February was designated American Heart Month in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, nine years after he suffered a heart attack. That means we’re celebrating our 57th American Heart Month, and here’s why.

Why Do We Celebrate?

  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S.
  • One in every four deaths in the U.S. is from heart disease
  • 78% of Americans don’t consider themselves at risk for heart disease, though 48% of adults have it
  • Somebody in the U.S. has a heart attack every 40 seconds

With cardiovascular health having such severe consequences, we take this month of February to encourage heart-healthy behaviors.

How You Can Participate

  1. Join us in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 5th. Just like last year, show your support by posting your red getup on social media and tag us using #CoroCares
  2. Make time to get your steps in every day! Walking is a pandemic-friendly activity that can help you stay healthy and connect with friends and family
  3. Get inspired with some new heart-healthy recipes and develop those quarantine cooking skills
  4. Follow along with us throughout the whole month to learn more about heart health and what you can do to care for yourself and your loved ones

“I know that every day I come to work, I am playing a part in saving someone’s life. I am passionate about these devices and am always looking for new and innovative ways to spread awareness and knowledge about Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). I look forward to the day when everywhere I go, I will see an AED—when SCA will no longer take any lives.”
