Heart Healthy Habits

Heart Healthy Habits blog. Fruits and veggies in a heart-shaped bowlWhat better way to show appreciation for your heart than to practice habits that keep it strong and healthy! Because we have your best interest at heart, we’re going to share some tips and tricks to keep your heart health in check.

A healthy diet can do a lot for your heart.

The most important thing to remember when you’re building a meal plan is that you need to do what works best for you. Some heart-healthy tips are limiting red meat and refined sugars, incorporating more fruits and vegetables, and trying low-sodium options when possible. Make sure to get in plenty of liquids, and make meals that are fun and exciting! If you’re lacking inspiration, check out our recipes blog from last American Heart Month.

A strong heart is a happy heart, and exercise is necessary for good heart health.

If you can’t seem to get that fitness routine to stick, mix it up and try something new. Between virtual and in-person fitness classes, there’s plenty of ways to get your heart pumping: walking, running, weight training, dancing, boxing, yoga, biking, swimming, or picking up a sport (my favorite way to get my fitness in is by hiking!). For days when there just aren’t enough hours to do it all, check out our blog on how to fit in fitness. No matter how you choose to exercise, make sure you couple it with plenty of sleep and a few rest days!

A final way to promote heart health is by keeping your blood pressure in check.

Limiting alcohol and tobacco intake are great ways to bring your blood pressure down, and there are plenty of medications to help do this as well. You can also try incorporating stress relief activities like yoga or meditation for a more holistic approach to lowering blood pressure. Youtube has great, easy to follow videos for all fitness levels.

Don’t know where to begin? Here’s a one-week challenge to kickstart your heart healthy habits!
