Virginia's SB 1453 Becomes Law: Mandatory AEDs in All Public Elementary and Secondary Schools
- Virginia SB 1453 is now law as Public Law Number 0767, mandating the placement of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all public elementary and secondary schools.
- Local school boards are required to develop a plan for the placement, care, and use of AEDs in every public elementary and secondary school within their division.
- This marks a significant shift from the current optional status of such plans and the lack of requirement for each school board to place AEDs in every school within their division.
- The Department of Education is required to compile and publicly avail a list of public and private programs, grants, or funding sources for fulfilling the requirements of this act by August 1, 2024.
